Yarmouth Harbour has over 100 visitor
moorings and around 20 thousand visitors to the site annually.
The Harbour Commission has an active role in supporting
the Estuaries Project and backing local wildlife and community
initiatives. The web site contains useful information on
services and facilities for visitors to Yarmouth, including
on site and local waste recycling facilities. There is
also good information about local wildlife and its protection
in the Yarmouth Harbour Guide and website and several guided
walks a year are organised from here.
Yarmouth is ideally
located at the Western end of the Isle of Wight for those
who like walking, cycling and riding, being in easy reach
of at least four walks of the West Wight. There are walks,
cycleways and bridal paths either side of the River Yar
to Freshwater, to Alum Bay and the Needles, or Freshwater
Bay and Tennyson Down. There are also frequent bus services
from Yarmouth to Newport and the rest of the West Wight,
making it an ideal place to start a day trip catching
the ferry at Lymington.
