THE FUTURE'S BRIGHT... THE FUTURE'S GREEN : 17th Feb 2007

Green Island is to become an integral part of the new look Isle of Wight Tourism, the Island's official tourism agency.

After spending the past six months in limbo the Green Island Project has finally received news that its future is secure, and that it will be moving from the Isle of Wight Council's Agenda 21 Unit to a new home at Isle of Wight Tourism. This fantastic news has followed a major decision by the Council to form a new external tourism agency for the Island. The new external company is set to be up and running from June 2007 so we are expecting an exciting year ahead!

After four years of plugging away it finally feels like all of our hard work has been justified. It presents us with the opportunity to build upon our already established programme and become a globally recognised centre for sustainable tourism. Watch this space!

In terms of the day-to-day operations we have also received some fantastic news in the recruitment of Red Funnel as a member of the scheme. Running two of the Island's major ferry routes and the largest programme of short-breaks and holiday packages it opens us up to an entire new range of opportunities. Red Funnel has been using Carbon Offsetting for a number of years so this should ensure they maintain their status as the 'greenest' of the ferry operators!

We have a number of meetings over the next few weeks to finalise the detail of Green Island's plans for 2007, so hopefully from the beginning of March we will be able to provide a much more comprehensive outline of what we have up our sleeves for the coming year!

Regards

Steve
