NEWTOWN TOWN HALL AND NATURE RESERVE
(National Trust)
Newtown Town Hall was derelict
when it was taken over by the NT. This is a building
where there are no right angles leaving it looking
crooked. The inside has been recreated with period
furniture and items and is often used for photographic
and art displays.
The Nature Reserve has a visitor information
point in the main car park and offers a good source
of local walks and wildlife information, including
where there is disabled access. The reserve boasts
two bird hides, one of which is accessible by wheelchair
users. This bird hide is manned by volunteers and includes
a solar powered TV telescope, enabling a number of
visitors the means to watch the local wildlife at the
same time. The volunteers are also a good source of
knowledge on the bird life around the area. The Nature
reserve is crossed by public footpaths and is part
of the round the island cycle route
