WETLAND WALK

We will be creating a short wetland walk around the outskirts of Sandown. On route there will be the opportunity to see Kingfishers on their nesting bank and Water Voles in their ditches and scrapes. Interpretation will be provided to explain this varied habitat, a route card will be available to visitors in return for a small donation to Gift To Nature and, to make more of a day of it, a picnic area is to be created by a nearby orchard.

On the edge of the Island’s “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” and easily accessible from Sandown, the “Wetland Walk” will give visitors and local people a taster of the Island’s beautiful countryside.

When will the project begin? The Wetland Walk is due to be launched in October 2003 assuming all goes to schedule! However before that much needs to be done….We will be building new gates and bridges, clearing ditches to improve habitats for water voles and building an artificial bank for kingfisher nesting.Watch this space!!
