WIGHTLINK IS THE ISLAND"S LATEST GREEN-LINK!

Green Island's auditor Lois Prior has been down in the bilges of Wightlink Ferries over the past month and has returned with a really positive report. Wightlink, the Island's largest ferry operator is one of the latest businesses to commit to the Green Island agenda. Although we are only at the first stage of the process, Wightlink's house, or should we say ship, seems very much in order and we have a great base to build upon.

Alongside ensuring that they meet the rafts of pollution prevention and control legislation Wightlink have also been hard at work trying to promote the greener sides of the Island's tourism industry. Last month they launched their own guide to eco-friendly holidays on the Isle of Wight titled 'Green Getaways' featuring a range of Green Island members.

Marketing Manager Kerry Jackson said that "Wightlink has been watching the development of Green Island Tourism with interest and applauds the strategy of encouraging Isle of Wight hotels, guest houses, attractions and other businesses involved in tourism to take steps to help protect the environment for the future.  We like the strategy of getting everyone involved in the venture. Small steps now will add up and make a real difference.

"We chose our green selection of properties for Green Getaways because each is doing its level best to protect the environment with ongoing investment in energy and water saving devices. By raising the profile of the Gold Award winners in the brochure, we hope that we will encourage others to do the same."

Copies of Green Getaways are available free from Wightlink by calling 0870 582 0202 and can also be downloaded from the Wightlink website - www.wightlink.co.uk .  Two night breaks cost from £60pp, including passenger ferry travel, or from £66pp, including car ferry travel (based on two sharing).
